Urgently Wanted: Freedom of Academic Learning and Research
In the summer of 2024, we brought a group of young Berliners from Pakistan, Algeria, Turkey and Afghanistan – students and soon-to-be-students – together to explore:
What does freedom mean to you? What is your experience of the freedom to study, learn or train in Berlin? Do you think that Berlin offers enough opportunities for young people to shape their futures without barriers?
In search of answers, our project Urgently Wanted: Freedom of Academic Learning and Research co-created artistic research in which the meaning of freedom of education was explored and obstacles to the fulfillment of this freedom documented.
Guided by an experienced radio play artists and a video activist, they learned about recording techniques, devised their research, interviewed people and edited their findings together.
An article contextualising our collaborative research process within the existing body of research on the topic, and highlighting our learning and findings, is available on PubPub.
