Frequently Asked Questions

About Course Registration

Off University courses are free and open to everyone. You don’t have to be a registered student at any university, and you don’t need to prove your background or education level to enroll to our courses.

You can enroll on Off University courses regardless of your motivation and aim to get accreditation. However, we encourage you to follow the course programme including the assignments and responsibilities as they will support your learning experience.

We do not share links for weekly sessions. Off University courses take place on the Off University Moodle where your digital security is a priority. You need an account to enroll, access the weekly sessions, the course material provided by the instructors, and request certificate upon successful completion.

We advise you to use a fake email address to create your Off University Moodle account. We regularly activate the new accounts ourselves. Even if you use your actual email address and don’t receive the activation email, your account will be activated within 24 hours on weekdays. Please note down your username and password in a safe place, and try to log in later again.

Off University considers itself a space of resistance against authoritarian regimes. In our online classes, we aim to create a learning environment that is as safe as possible for our most vulnerable participants.

Please create your Off University Moodle account with a fake name and email address. You are not required to share your personal information with anybody and email communications are not encouraged as it is not private to communicate via emails. During the certificate process, the learner designer will contact you directly on Off University Moodle to ask for your personal information to prepare your certificate. Please communicate your information only on the Off University Moodle. To learn more about self-digital-defence, you can contact the learner designer with your questions and concerns.

About Teaching A Course

Our security strategy includes that nobody has to join the seminar with their real name. If we decided to organize an online seminar with you, we would do an assessment of an individual risk situation before the seminar and agree on measures to keep the scholars safe. This could include teaching under a pseudonym.

Our seminars aim at creating exchange between scholars and  participants. If you have a connectivity problem, most probably the  participants to your seminar will have, too. I this case, we would  adjust the format of the seminar accordingly, reduce the time online  synchronously and invent learning activities fitting the needs of scholars and participants.
